Memorial Day May 30, 1943Dearest Father
Hello Dad. how are you? And everyone else. I'm very much the same as always, a little sleep haven't had any sleep for practically two nights, night before last I worked 6 hours in the night, and yesterday never had a chance to sleep, and then I went on guard last night or yesterday afternoon rather, my 24 hours is up now, so I thought I would write some letters and try and get a good nights sleep tonight.
I just remembered that you are going to have a birthday in a couple of weeks and thought I would drop you a few lines to let you know I'll be thinking about you. And to wish you a very "Happy Birthday."
I wrote my little brother a letter this morning, while I had some time off, or maybe I should say my big brother, although big as he is, he will never be nothing but little brother to me.
I have to do some explaining some times when the boys are looking at my pictures of my sisters, I always say when I point Avis out "That's my little sister." They always say "Little" then I have to say Well she's my youngest anyway. They guys all say they are coming to see my goodlooking sisters when this is all over. Then I cuss them and say, "If one of you ever looks at 'em I'll break your neck." (Our way of having fun)
I haven't gotten any letters from you this week but I did get 4 papers today one Graphic and 3 Stuart papers, I kinda glanced through them before I'm through I'll read every word. The latest one was April 30 so that's not so bad for second class mail.
I got 2 letters this week one from Laurence & Evelyn and one from Quentin M. Laurence was telling me about his new horse, and wrote me a couple of jokes, Sure do like to get letters from them they say anything that comes in their heads.
I suppose by this time you have your farming all done, Hope you plenty of rain to raise good crops, and have plenty of pasture and hay.
Well Dad guess I won't write any more this time. I'll write again soon. I hope I get some mail from you and Betty tomorrow, tell everyone Hello and good Luck. Don't worry.
Lots of Love
Your Son Wesley
