Wallace O Connell to Mr. & Mrs. L.G. Slaymaker, 01/09/1943
Jan-5-1942 (sic; postmark indicates 1943)Hello Folks:
Received your XMas card and many thanks for all the good wishes. We are all well over here, I haven't saw Wesley since we left the coast at San Francisco but I know he is on this Island because I saw Jerome Baum at Midnite Mass on Christmas and he said that Wesley was O.K. We are split up here and don't get around much, some days are plenty long and tough over her, but I can assure that Wesley is doing a good job of soldiering.
We have a radio in camp and get to hear the war news on all fronts and it seems to be all in our favor now.
Received a letter from Mother yesterday saying have had a rather mild winter so far I hope it continues until spring. We are in mid-summer in the tropics now and heat and mosquitos are hard to contend with.
Its the beginning of a New Year and here's hoping that this brings to an end all this world wide trouble for good. Will close, hoping this finds all in the best of Health.
